On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin directed his military to invade Ukraine, wreaking devastating results in mere weeks. Thousands dead. Millions displaced. Cities in rubble. Putin’s actions also sparked near-universal condemnation from the global community, which imposed punishing economic sanctions that quickly laid waste to the Russian economy.
In that context, WashU Olin presents a “fireside chat” among three university experts who will examine the cultural and economic implications of the invasion of Ukraine, with a special focus on how ongoing sanctions may affect the global economy. Accompanying the conversation: an opportunity for attendees to lend financial or in-kind support.
WashU Olin Dean Dr. Mark P. Taylor, Donald Danforth Jr. Distinguished Professor of Finance, will host the conversation. Joining him: Dr. James Wertsch, David R. Francis Distinguished Professor of Sociocultural Anthropology and Global Studies, and Dr. Lingxiu Dong, Frahm Family Chair of Supply Chain, Operations and Technology.
Dr. Wertsch is a published expert in the topic of national narratives and memory and the former Soviet Union. Dean Taylor is an authority on global finance and economics. Dr. Dong is a published authority on global supply chain issues and operations.
Please submit questions by email in advance. Dean Taylor and the panel will address as many as possible during the conversation.
