NOMINATIONS ARE NOW OPEN for the 2019 Washington University Trailblazers Awards

The purpose of Washington University Trailblazers is to acknowledge, commemorate and celebrate the contributions Black alumni, faculty, and staff have made to the institution and broader communities. The initiative provides an opportunity for the university and local community to learn more about Washington University’s history, recognize Black change agents who have shaped the present-day institution, and make intergenerational connections with alumni, faculty, staff, and current studen​ts.

Awards include:

Outstanding Black Faculty Award:
The award for outstanding black faculty is awarded to a current Washington University in St. Louis faculty member of African descent. The recipient of this award is someone who is deemed by students and colleagues as having a positive impact in the classroom and the broader Washington University community.

Outstanding Black Staff Award:
The award for outstanding black faculty is awarded to a current Washington University in St. Louis staff member of African descent. The recipient of this award is someone who is deemed by colleagues, faculty, or students as someone who has made contributions to their particular working environment, as well as, the wider Washington University community.

Outstanding Black Alumni Award:
The award for outstanding black alumni is awarded to a Washington University in St. Louis alum of African descent who has gone on to contribute to their professional endeavors with distinction and integrity in a way that embodies the most lofty ideals imparted by Washington University’s strive for excellence.

Past winners of this award include Cynthia Cosby, Brittany Packnett, Wilmetta Toliver-Diallo, Sowande Mustakeem, Robert WIlliams, Jack Kirkland, Douglas Flowe, Rochelle Smith, Association of Black Students (ABS), and the Organizers of the 1968 Brookings Occupation.

The awards ceremony will be held on May 14, 2019. More details to come.
