The Department of Jewish, Islamic, and Middle Eastern Studies Presents: The Fall 2019 Middle East – North Africa Film Series. Please join us for the screening of two films: Wadjda (November 6) and Wajd (November 19).

Wadjda (2012, 98 minutes), directed by Haifaa Al-Mansour is about a rebellious Saudi girl (Waad Mohammed) who enters a Koran recitation competition at her school and hopes to win enough money to buy her own bicycle.Wadjda is screening November 6 @ 5:15pm in Brown Hall, Room 118.

 

 

 

 

Wajd (2018, 87 minutes), is filmed in the wake of unimaginable loss, three Syrian refugees turn to their love of Sufi music. Inspired by the traditional music of Syria, director Amar Chebib travelled to Aleppo and Damascus in 2010. Six months later the revolution began. Wajd is screening November 19 @ 5:15pm in Brown Hall, Room 118.
