Distinguished Visiting Scholars Program

The Distinguished Visiting Scholars Program was established in Fall 1998 as part of Washington University's efforts to increase the representation of underrepresented faculty (African-American, Hispanic, American Indian) on campus.   The length of stay varies from two days to one semester.   The program brings to campus persons who have distinguished themselves as leaders or potential leaders in the academy, business, or other fields of endeavor. During their sojourn the scholars participate in the intellectual life of the campus by teaching seminars, giving lectures, and interacting with students and faculty.

It is our hope that the Distinguished Visiting Scholars will help us identify potential future faculty members (their students, colleagues, people they know). A visit here might also convince the scholars that Washington University is the place to be.

The hosting department or school extending the invitation coordinates all the appropriate and necessary arrangements for a successful visit. The central administration covers the expenses, including stipend, airfare, hotel (room only) and official meals/events involving Washington University faculty, staff and students.

Inquiries about visits as well as names and resumes of suitable candidates should be forwarded for consideration at least one semester in advance of the planned visit to:
